Any sort of effective SEO, whether it's video SEO or trying to rank blog posts or web sites, needs backlinks. This is a link from another web page to your page.
And, depending on the type of link it is and where it came from, these links have power to effect the ranking of the page the link points to.
If the search engines see this link has coming from a "trusted" source with page authority and domain authority, a small amount of backlinks can make a huge difference.
It's all about quality of quantity when dealing with back links. And video embeds, or social embeds, can be a high quality backlink when ranking videos in both Youtube, Google and other search engines.
It's best to mix up your links but it's recommended to have more embeds than raw back links unless you can get back links from high authoritative places.
Back links are divided into two categories, "follow" and "nofollow". This is to protect the internet from millions of links spammed all over the place in efforts to rank content.
A follow link will pass on it's "link juice" or ranking power through the link, whereas most nofollow links do not.
Because search engines are always adapting and changing, it's always recommended to do sometrial and error to see what works best for you, but generally focus on getting follow links and embedding your embeds across various places (shown in our Jack & Rank course).
