Why Would You Want to Make an Image Transparent?
Transparency is always needed for design purposes, especially for designing logos and banners for web pages, or when layering images on top of each other to make one final image.

If you want to use part of an image but perhaps not use the white background it sits on, how to turn that white background transparent can be very handy.

Transparency creates an impression an object is part of one whole image. It looks like it's supposed to be there, rather than an untidy white box around it.

Making Part of an Image Transparent
For simple tasks like adding transparency, we’d recommend using http://getpaint.net, as it will only take 2 minutes to create transparency.

The Magic Wand tool in Pain.net will allow you to select the right part of the image you want to make transparent depending on the colour and shade of your chosen section.

Once the area has been selected you can use the Tolerance bar at the top for a more specific selection ready for making transparent.

Simply press the Delete button on your keyboard. When you see the area turn into the checkerboard pattern, this is transparency.

IMPORTANT: you must save the image as a .PNG file for your image to support transparency.
